In 2007, Congress passed a resolution establishing September 25th as a day that will honor the memory of all Murdered Victims. Congressman John Shadegg stated "Too often victims' families are left alone to cope with their loss and feel overwhelmed by the bureaucratic complexities of the criminal justice system. Long after the story of a homicide fades from the newspapers and television programs, victims' families and friends are often left to mourn their loved ones in isolation". Rep. Shadegg asked members of Congress to join him in letting families know that they are not alone, and that as a nation, we will remember the legacy of so many lives tragically cut short.
September 25th was chosen in honor of 19 year old Lisa Hullinger, daughter of POMC's founders, Robert and Charlotte Hullinger.
