As part of our Youth And Gang Violence Prevention Programming NCGV and members are working with at-risk youth to establish a library "satelite" branch at Lyon Park Community Center. For about a month now NCGV has received books donations from across the Triangle and thanks to these donations we will be ready to soon open up the lending room. The project came out of our Teens on Target program, a program designed by teens to teach teens about the dangers of gang violence, relationship violence, and gun safety. Following the program the youth did a community mapping to determine what would reduce violence in their community. Their Conclusion? Books. In the coming weeks, these teens many of whom were previously in danger of failing out of school, will be able to stand proudly in the library their dedication built.
Teens on Target gets to the root of the problem- stopping violence in our communities.
